Bio

Sylvia Gaylord joined the CSM faculty as Assistant Professor of Liberal Arts and International Studies in January 2007, after completing her Ph.D. in Political Science at Northwestern University. She received a B.A in International Relations and a M.A. in International Studies from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. Her specialty is in Brazilian executive-legislative relations with disciplinary concentrations in Political Economy and Quantitative Methods. Her broader research interests the politics of tax spending in Latin America and the political dimensions of the informal economy. In LAIS, she teaches upper and lower division courses in comparative and Latin American politics and International Political Economy, including courses at the graduate level for the Master of International Political Economy of Resources program.
