High Grade
Literary and Arts Journal

“The following pages are proof that engineers write poetry on their E2 paper, chemists draw things other than molecular structures, and physicists can fill pages with a work of fiction not involving Greek letters. This is “High Grade,” what the right side of your brain’s been waiting for.”

Chris Lopez, High Grade Editor-in-Chief by day Physics major by night

"Goals" - a poem by Adam Koester

Goals
by Adam Koester

Tic, Tic, Sheeech, Tic, Tic
the words scribble out on the chalk board
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
The teacher turns around beaming.
The room simmers a second
as the students absorb the question.
Then erupts in storm of first grade voices
“Fireman.”
“Policeman.”
“Cowboy.”
And I find myself, “Astronaut.”
Now things have changed.
Ahh to do it all over again,
Tic, Tic, Sheech, Tic, Tic
The flurry of voices,
Yet I sit silent.
After the din I think to myself,
‘A good man. Yes, that would be enough’
