Graduation Requirements

Mines students in all majors must take 19 credit-hours in Humanities and Social Science courses ranging from freshman through senior levels of course work. These courses are housed in LAIS and the Division of Economics and Business (EB). The remaining 9 credit-hours must be chosen from the Humanities & Social Sciences General Education Restricted Electives list of courses.

NOTICE: Effective Fall 2007, the Clusters Requirement has been replaced with a Humanities & Social Sciences General Education Restricted Electives Requirement, which should be much easier for students to fulfill than the old Clusters Requirement. The discontinuance of the Clusters Requirement automatically applies to all undergraduate students, irrespective of which Bulletin they are on; therefore, students do not need to take any action to “switch” themselves to the new H&SS GenEd requirement. In addition, any Cluster courses that students have already completed will automatically apply towards meeting the new H&SS GenEd requirement.

Students must take the following Humanities and Social Sciences Core and General Education Restricted Electives courses for all Undergraduate degrees. (McBride Honors Program Students: Consult your program administrator for exceptions to these requirements.)
