Bio
Jen Schneider received her Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from Claremont Graduate University in 2004. Her dissertation examines the “monster” in Cold War American literature and film, from science fiction monsters to the demonization of marginalized groups in politics and culture. She is an Assistant Professor at Mines, where she teaches film studies and communications courses.  She is the Managing Editor of the new journal Engineering Studies, set to launch in 1009.   Her current research projects focus on how scientists and engineers communication with the public about the environment, nanotechnology, and development projects. Jen enjoys yoga, snowboarding, reading and writing, and hanging out with her husband Eric and two daughters, Addie and Nolie.

Scholarship
Jen is currently working on two research projects: one examines the role of communications education at technical universities at Mines, and the other is a new project examining the role of environmentalism and environmentalist rhetoric in Hollywood’s science fiction films.

In addition to her academic research, Jen works as a freelance writer, and has worked on documentary scripts and learning guides related to her research in popular culture and the 1950s. She also writes film and book reviews.
