Biography

Jen-Schneider2.jpg Jen Schneider received her Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from Claremont Graduate University in 2004. Her dissertation examines the “monster” in Cold War American literature and film, from science fiction monsters to the demonization of marginalized groups in politics and culture. She is an Assistant Professor at Mines, where she teaches media studies and communication courses. Her current research projects focus on how scientists and engineers communicate with the public about the environment, engineering, and energy, with a focus on risk, community, and popular culture. Jen’s book Engineering and Sustainable Community Development, co-authored with Juan Lucena and Jon Leydens, was published in March 2010, and she is working on a National Science Foundation-funded project with Juan and Jon on Engineering and Social Justice. Jen was also chosen as a 2009 National Academy of Engineering Frontiers of Engineering Education (FOEE) fellow.
